Choquequirao and Machupicchu 8 days 7 nights

Itinerario

DAY 1: CUSCO – CACHORA – CHIQUISCA
At 6:00 am we pick up from your hotel and travel to Cachora (4 hours by bus): While the group is preparing, the one who will take care of the horses and equipment for the walk. From the town of Cachora we can see the majestic snow-covered peaks of Padreyoc, the highest being 5,482 meters above sea level.

The walk on this day is 16 km or 6 hours. Along the way we will observe Padreyoc and Wayna Cachora peaks covered in snow. We can appreciate the beautiful change of the landscape from cliffs to snow-capped mountains. The hike starts out pretty flat.

From the point of view of Capuliyoc, where we could see condors, the descent towards the Apurimac Canyon begins, and the change of vegetation, after lunch in Capuliyoc we will continue hiking but now out of service for approximately 30 minutes. and then 2 hours to Chikiska where we will camp (1,900 meters above sea level). Here we can find a rustic shower, toilet, and a small shop where you can buy some bottles of water..

DAY 2: RUINAS CHIQUISCA – CHOQUEQUIRAO 
After an early breakfast at 6:00 am. We start walking from here we continue the descent to the abundant Apurímac River at 1550 meters above sea level in the impressive deep canyon of the same name. After a short rest we continued our walk going up to Choquekiraw. The first 3-4 hours are steep climbing, but then you will change between flat and climbing the rest of the way surrounded by beautiful vegetation with various varieties of orchids. At km 28, Marampata we will have lunch, rest and then continue to Choquequiraw arriving at 3 pm. We explored the ruins after arriving. The view of the canyon is spectacular, it is also possible to see Andean condors soaring in the mountains. Camping near Choquequirao. 3033 meters above sea level. . (BLD).

DAY 3: CHOQUEQUIRAO – MAIZAL 
On this day we walked uphill for a time up to 3299 meters above sea level, considered as a first step and then descended to the Río Blanco at 1909 meters above sea level. First we walk through the cloud forest, but then it all turns into steep open grassland with open views of the mountains and valleys. Pinchinoyoc – these ruins are something very special. They suddenly appear in the cloud forest, almost invisible due to the thick layer of mosses and other vegetation that covers it. Here we will spend the night, basically, on the old Inca terraces. We will have our lunch near the White River, we use the brake here to get a refreshing swim in the cold and clear river waters. We walked across the river, since there are no bridges. After our brake we begin the long, steep climb to our camp in Maizal, high above the river near the sacred Apus of the Incas. From Rio Blanco we went up to Maizal for about 4 hours. Camp at 3000 meters above sea level. (DAC).

DAY 4: MAIZAL – YANAMA
From here we begin to walk uphill passing through the impressive Inca mines called Minas Victoria towards Victoria Pass. Once again a long climb, but we walked in an incredibly beautiful area – first with cloud forest and then over Andean Puna with the well-known ichu grass. We rested in some of Victoria’s mines, where shiny metal stones speak of a high concentration of minerals and metals, which were later used by other miners. Almost at the top we can see original paved Inca roads. We have our lunch at the pass at 4200 meters above sea level with views of the Choquetakarpo mountain, while we have lunch we can appreciate the flight of the condors depending on the weather, before beginning the descent towards Yanama, a small isolated town at the bottom of a long valley surrounded of mountains. We pass more than 4,154 meters above sea level and finally descend to our camp at 3,800 meters above sea level. (DAC).

DAY 5: YANAMA – TOTORA
After breakfast we began to slowly climb to our overpass 4668 meters above sea level, again the view is incredible, we are surrounded by snow-covered mountains of Mt. Sacsarayoj and Mt. Padreyoj. We continue from Yanama through the valley towards the highest point of the tour, The Yanama Pass at 4500 meters above sea level. On the way we have a good view of the snow-capped peaks of Sacsarayoc. Once again we have the opportunity to see condors, and this morning’s gentle ascent will take us through new landscapes – especially the fields of wet grass below the snow line that distinguish it from everything else seen on the tour. On the pass we could walk in the snow, and the descent is a long foggy walk through wet areas and fields and green bushes and crossing small wooden/dirt bridges on the way to the community of Totora, where we will spend the night. . DAY 6: TOTORA – LA PLAYA
On this day we went down to the Totora River. As we move through the birdlife is very interesting especially with hummingbirds, woodpeckers and many species of orchids and begonias. We walked the approximately 2000 meters through changes in vegetation to the hottest camp in the town of La Playa. Approx. 7 hours walking. On the way we see small waterfalls and get a refreshing natural bath. The area also has a great variation of bird life and it is now obvious that the climate and vegetation have totally changed, and we now see the recognizable living room plants in Europe and various types of orchids. La Playa is the largest town on the way, where we can find some small shops to buy snacks etc. In this area we can see small coffee and banana plantations. Camping at sl 2125ma. (DAC)

DAY 7: LA PLAYA – AGUAS CALIENTES
After a good breakfast we took a transport that takes us to the town of Santa Teresa, soon we passed through an Oroya we crossed a river from Vilcanota, where we will take a transport from Hydroelectric, a place where we will have an excellent view of Machupicchu back site, After lunch, we walk our last trail which lasts 3 hours until we reach Aguas Calientes around 4:30 pm where our long walk finishes. DAY 8: MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO
After an early breakfast from Aguas Calientes we will take the bus to Machu Picchu. We begin our visit with a 2-3 hour guided tour, which takes us to the most important places in the archaeological site and the guide will tell us about the great importance of Machu Picchu enjoyed as an astronomical and religious center. The rest of the day we spend at this incredible ruin and you will have the opportunity to climb Wayna Picchu or visit the beautiful temple of the moon. We meet in the afternoon in Aguas Calientes where we take our train ticket back to Cusco. (B.)
